Can I do anything?
But if I really get focused, then I can finish an article or project. There must be a voice in my head all the time who says I have to finish it. If this voice says “You can do this!”, then I have the power over my whole mind. That feels so damn good.
I also ask myself if I always need to stay focused? Well, not all the time. You also need a break. But after the distraction, you have to get back to the same project! Otherwise, your mind will learn that you are allowed to distract yourself!
At a certain age, it is difficult to relearn how to focus. I am almost 31 years old and I realise how difficult it is for me at this age. You know, you’re not too old to learn things. Research shows the more you try to multitask, the more you will be distracted, the more mistakes you make.
Thus, you can say that you need to stay focused when your colleague is presenting her/his idea, or when you are listening to your friend who is divorced, or when you walk on the streets to get your groceries and not trying to text your best friends on the latest gossip at work while walking on those streets… Put all your distractions aside you.
This all makes me think right now (yes, writing and thinking at the same time… hmmm) that I am not saying you aren’t allowed to be distracted, but when you get some thoughts/distraction you write it on your to-do list or a piece of paper. That also helps you to remember things what’s on your mind.
So, as I am writing this, I am focused. Yeah!! The reason for me is to learn to focus on writing on one thing at the time.
